Our Story
Gary and Tyler David are a father and son woodworking duo. They started the Bright Idea home décor line back in 2010 when Tyler discovered the process they use to color the wood. Being only an 11- year-old, the lathe was the main power tool Tyler would use and experiment with. Tyler has now made over 10,000 candle holders as well as other products. Other things that Tyler makes include table lamps, pepper mills and air plant holders. Gary has worked on expanding the home décor line making other items that are colored with the same process, such as walking sticks, coat trees and floor lamps.
Where Our Wood Comes From
Gary and Tyler harvest all of their own lumber on their local 20 acre woodlot. By using their own sawmill they are able to cut a variety of different hard and soft woods. The main woods used are basswood, aspen, cherry, maple, pine and ash as well as some other specialty woods. The different woods all accept the color differently. This gives each piece many unique characteristics and makes them truly one of a kind.
Coloring Process
When Tyler First invented the coloring process he only used a red and a yellow lumber crayon. He then discovered that by using oil pastels he would be able to create much more vibrant and lively color. The coloring process has evolved over time. Gary and Tyler are always thinking of new items to make that are both functional and one of a kind. Gary and Tyler are able to create a unique set of colors that make great accent pieces for any environment.
